Ready to Find your Vehicle?

Congratulations on taking the first step!

Before you begin your search, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following important US vehicle admissibility requirements:

On arrival, the vehicle must be at least 25 years old for import to the US, or 15 years old for import to Canada from the date of manufacture.

The vehicle has to be in the manufacturer’s original and unmodified condition- most importantly the chassis and engine must be original to that vehicle.

Are pre-purchase inspections necessary?

Whilst inspections aren’t mandatory, they are strongly recommended when buying a used vehicle site-unseen. They allow you to ascertain most of its material facts, as well as an objective, unbiased professional opinion of its condition.

Not everything can be seen in an inspection, however any found problems allow you to have a fairly clear understanding of what you’re buying..

Can I negotiate with foreign sellers?

Absolutely! Negotiating a fair price is part of the purchasing process. An independent inspection report will often allow you the leverage to have the sale price reduced, depending on the outcome.

How do I know which sellers I can trust?

Buying a vehicle remotely in a fraud-infested world is certainly something to be weary of. Whilst guarantees are very difficult to come by, we generally recommend exercising caution when dealing with private sellers.

Conversely, dealerships are more likely to have an online presence with real customer reviews.

How do I remit funds to a foreign seller?

Most major financial institutions will offer the option of foreign wire transfers. It is important to shop around for the best transfer rate. Services such as Wise* offer a competitive and seamless transfer service.

*LIMA Automotive Industries is unaffiliated with and does not promote any singular financial institution.

When are duties and taxes paid?

Once your vessel sails, our logistics team will begin preparing your customs submission.

At this point you’ll receive your customs invoice. Note: it is important to pay the invoice promptly to ensure a seamless customs release on arrival.

Can the vehicle be delivered directly to my mechanic?

Yes, absolutely. Simply provide your customer service representative with the garage address, and we’ll ensure the vehicle is delivered accordingly.

How do I title and plate my vehicle?

Whilst each state has its own set of guidelines, the process is somewhat comparable across the board. You’ll require a safety certificate, insurance, original title, Bill of Sale, and your customs paperwork.

Once this is brought to your local road authority, they’ll be able to assist you with titling and plating it. Your customer-service representative will be able to assist you with the individual requirements of your state.
